Catholic organizations in the United States commit to creating safe environments.

Over the last decade, Catholic organizations in the United States have committed tremendous resources, time, and energy implementing safe environments for children. Praesidium created the first research-based abuse prevention education program for the Catholic community, Protecting God’s Children®, and more recently, Called to Protect®, now widely used in dioceses across the nation and in Canada. In addition, Praesidium serves as the accrediting body for men’s Catholic religious orders and congregations in the United States, helping them achieve excellence in sexual abuse prevention. While these programs represent a “new normal” in how ministries operate, maintaining a safe environment requires constant vigilance and zero tolerance for drift from standards. Praesidium serves Catholic organizations today by helping dioceses, orders, social service programs, and schools define standards and achieve and maintain compliance. Testimonials

In 2002, the discovery of wide-spread sexual abuse erupted within the Catholic faith community, requiring a concerted response on the part of religious leaders and faithful alike. To fulfill its own mission for the faith communities it serves, the Conference of Major Superiors of Men must assist those elected or appointed to leadership within Catholic religious institutes of men.

Seeking assistance, the CMSM discovered Praesidium, Inc. and learned of its commitment to the protection of children and minors. In CMSM’s commitment to urge its members to establish and promote a protecting culture for children, minors, and the vulnerable, the Conference has found trained, experienced, knowledgeable, and practiced allies in the services, staff, and programs of Praesidium.

Our member institutes report that Praesidium’s professional staff has steadfastly devoted itself to working closely with them, becoming fully aware of the personnel, the practices and the policies of each institute and requiring the adoption of structures necessary to honor a commitment to protect. Praesidium has helped to alter a culture too naïve and trusting into one aware, alert, and educated in order that the good mission of our members may continue and thrive.

John Pavlik, OFM Cap. Executive Director, Conference of Major Superiors of Men

Praesidium has been a wonderful partner for the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. Praesidium has helped us as we strive to educate our members to promote a culture of respect for minors and vulnerable adults, show compassion to those who have been sexually abused, and respond to priests and religious accused of abuse. Through their Religious Accreditation program, Praesidium helped direct our ministry in the correct path for responding and have helped create policies that reflect our charism and spirituality. I hope Praesidium will be for you the positive and helpful partner they have been for us.

All children and youth in the parishes and schools of the Archdiocese of New Orleans are gifts from a God who loves and cherishes them. Praesidium’s training materials demonstrate the value of each child’s life as they deal with the issues of childhood sexual abuse. The training offers direction for children as they learn to protect themselves and gives them a voice when they, or someone they know, experiences abuse. Minister and parent oriented training leads to discussions on the signs of abuse, mandated reporting laws, and practical ways to interact with and monitor children. Adults leave the training with an appreciation of the responsibility they have in protecting the children of the Church and a willingness to help each child grow in love and faith.
