Episcopal Church surpasses 260,000 course mark for youth protection training

ARLINGTON, Texas (Sept. 4, 2014) – Staff and volunteers from Episcopal Dioceses in the United States recently completed the 260,000th session of online training courses offered by Praesidium, Inc. and insurance partner Church Pension Group. Since 2008, more than 60,000 learners from 90 Episcopal Dioceses or associated groups have completed 13 online courses of Safeguarding God’s Children, the child sexual abuse prevention training created by Praesidium and provided to Episcopal Dioceses and churches by Church Pension Group.

Praesidium recently released a 14th online course to Episcopal Dioceses and churches. The course, Duty to Report: Mandated Reporting, teaches church staff and volunteers why reporting suspected child abuse or neglect is the law and helps them understand what types of incidents must be reported.

Praesidium and Church Pension Group have partnered for over a decade to provide flexible, easy-to-use training solutions to support the Episcopal Church’s safe environment efforts. In addition to courses completed online, thousands more Episcopal staff and volunteers have attended the Safeguarding God’s Children training in person.

“We’re pleased that our online courses are part of the Episcopal Church and Church Pension Group’s efforts to protect children from sexual abuse,” said Dr. Richard Dangel, President & CEO of Praesidium. “Completing more than 260,000 online sessions of Safeguarding God’s Children is an exceptional achievement.”

Churches and individuals interested in taking the online training are encouraged to contact their Diocese for more information.
